#WeAreTOMRA: Meet Lorena Medrano, Financial Controller

Born in Argentina, Lorena studied Economics at UADE University and started her career by taking on her first controller role in a pharmaceutical company at 23. Even though she enjoyed her work, she felt she hadn’t travelled enough and wanted new experiences. So she stepped out of her comfort zone, moved abroad, and started again from scratch. Today, she lives in a quiet town in Catalonia, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, and enjoys life there with her family. Lorena joined TOMRA in 2019 at our Roses office as Finance Manager for Iberia.

What is your role at TOMRA and what does a typical day look like for you?

As Financial Controller, I manage a portfolio of three entities. My work focuses on driving financial excellence – delivering accurate reporting, optimizing processes, and ensuring compliance with corporate standards.

A typical day includes analyzing financial data and staying in close contact with the local managers of these entities to provide support and make sure everything aligns with the group’s requirements.

What inspired you to join TOMRA?

What inspired me to join TOMRA is its international work environment and the opportunity to operate in a strategic sector focused on reducing waste and reusing resources. I believe this is essential to create a more sustainable future for the generations to come.

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?

My hobbies include spending time with my family and traveling with them whenever possible. I’m also a nature lover, and I’m lucky to live close to both the sea and the mountains. I enjoy outdoor sports such as swimming, walking, and cycling.

How would you describe the culture at TOMRA?

What I value most about TOMRA is the global and truly international environment. I feel supported by a solid and reliable company.

I also appreciate how TOMRA is taking a leadership position in corporate social responsibility – creating policies that ensure a safe working environment, promote gender equality, support work-life balance and flexible hours, and encourage women in leadership.

What does diversity mean to you at TOMRA?

For me, diversity means creating an environment where everyone feels respected, appreciated, and empowered to contribute – regardless of where you come from, what you like, or what you look like. What truly matters is who you are as a person: your goals, your values, and the things you care about.
